Ingredients
Scale
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted and slightly cooled
- 1 cup granulated white sugar
- 2 large eggs, room temperature
- 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
- 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease an 8×8 inch square baking pan with butter or cooking spray, or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the melted butter and granulated sugar. Stir well using a whisk or a wooden spoon until the mixture is smooth and well-combined.
- Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract. Make sure the mixture is glossy before moving to the next step.
- Sift in the cocoa powder, all-purpose flour, salt, and baking powder. Using a spatula, gently fold the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined. Do not overmix, as this can make the brownies tough.
- If you are using chocolate chips, fold them into the batter gently. This adds extra pockets of melted chocolate throughout the brownies.
- Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and spread it evenly. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs. Let the brownies cool completely in the pan before cutting them into squares.
