- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened to room temperature
- 1 cup packed light brown sugar
- 1/2 cup granulated white sugar
- 2 large eggs, room temperature
- 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
- 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1 cup chopped pecans
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13 inch baking pan with butter or non-stick spray. For even easier removal, you can line the pan with parchment paper, leaving a slight overhang on the sides.
- In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter, brown sugar, and white sugar together using an electric mixer. Continue mixing on medium-high speed for about 2 to 3 minutes until the mixture is light and fluffy.
- Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract and mix until everything is well combined and smooth.
- In a separate medium bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add these dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing on low speed just until the flour disappears. Do not overmix.
- Using a sturdy spatula or wooden spoon, gently fold in the chocolate chips and the chopped pecans until they are evenly distributed throughout the dough.
- Transfer the dough to your prepared baking pan. Use your hands or a spatula to press the dough into an even layer. Bake in the preheated oven for 20 to 25 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out mostly clean.
- Place the pan on a wire rack and let the bars cool completely. This is important because the bars will firm up as they cool. Once cool, lift them out using the parchment paper or slice them directly in the pan into 24 squares.
