Ingredients
Scale
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted and slightly cooled
- 1 cup packed light brown sugar
- 1 large egg, room temperature
- 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1/2 cup chopped pecans
Instructions
- Preheat and Prep: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease an 8×8-inch square baking pan with butter or non-stick spray, or line it with parchment paper for easy removal later.
- Mix Wet Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the melted butter and brown sugar until smooth and well combined. Add the egg and vanilla extract, whisking again until the mixture is glossy.
- Combine Dry Ingredients: Using a spatula or wooden spoon, gently stir in the flour, baking powder, and salt. Mix until just combined; be careful not to overmix the batter or the bars may become tough.
- Fold in Mix-ins: Gently fold in the chocolate chips and the chopped pecans until they are evenly distributed throughout the thick dough.
- Spread and Bake: Transfer the dough into the prepared baking pan. Use a spatula to spread it into an even layer. Bake for 22 to 25 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with just a few moist crumbs.
- Cool and Slice: Place the pan on a wire rack and let the bars cool completely before cutting them into squares. This allows the center to set properly for the best texture.
